Red Bull Sea To Sky: "Great location, very promising terrain"
Some guys in the prime holiday spot of Kemer, Turkey, were bored with water sports and had a crazy idea. They called in the experienced „Romaniacs“-crew around Martin Freinademetz to establish a new 2-day race that will play in the top league of Hard Enduro events right from the start. From 7-9 Oct riders from all over the world are expected in Kemer to race from the beach to the mountaintops, and they are welcome to bring their families along for a bit of swimming.
The Kemer Enduro club has lots of experience with races on a national level.
The „Red Bull Sea to Sky“ Race will start on Sat, Oct 8th, with a 15 minute warmup race on the beach right in front of the beach hotels. This will establish a ranking for the following race against the clock in the surrounding forest. By Saturday night everybody should have had a thorough workout and some impresson of the scenery. The track is hard, but manageable for most riders, so most of them should make it to Day 2 when the real fun starts.
Freinademetz says: „Great location, very promising terrain for a good race. The local Enduro club is highly motivated and the officials in Kemer support us.“
Sunday Oct 9th is not designed as a day of rest for the riders, in fact it will separate the men from the boys. As the name of the race promises, the track leads from the sea to the sky, from 0 to 2300 m altitude. Bring your serious alpine equipment, boys! Martin Freinademetz' forecast: only about a third of the starters will reach the mountaintop finish. This is the „Gold“ finish at the end of the 100 km track. „Silver“ is for those who make it to 1700 m. There is a „Bronze“ finish as well, it´s about a third of the way to the top. Anyone who makes it there has earned his medal with lots of sweat.
Klaus Sorensen is happy about the fabulous terrain.
He´s had a nice couple of days thinking up the best track.
Sea to Sky will be a high level event from the start, as top notch riders like Chris Birch and Andreas Lettenbichler will be competing. If you can´t be there, don´t cry too hard, at least you will get prime video action. Jeff Pakosta´s „Throttle Entertainment“ will send their camera teams to the beaches and mountains around Kemer. The race will be featured on TV in „Enduro Kings“ and will get coverage in all the Red Bull media and on the „Man & Machine“ DVD.
These waterproof cameramen will go to great lengths to get the best pictures.
60 Euros entry fee will get you insurance, gas and water along the track. Add to this the cost for accomodation and bike transport. At the moment the team is working on one possible transport route from Spain and one from Northern Germany. See details and updates on the Red Bull Romaniacs Homepage and the „Red Bull Sea to Sky“ facebook page.
Bring the family: there will be special holiday offers around this race.
Kemer is a well established holiday destination at the Turkish Riviera. There is no lack of great beaches and scenery, restaurants, hotels and things to do. So riders are encouraged to bring their friends and family for a few days of relaxation. For those who hate relaxation there will also be the possibility to spend more the days in the saddle, the Enduro saddle that is. (constanze pandi, c. panny)
