Double runner-up result for Knight at GP of Argentina
KTM Enduro Factory Team rider David Knight has secured another solid result in the 2012 Enduro World Championship, scoring a pair of second place finishes in the Enduro 3 class at the GP of Argentina. Placing behind team-mate Christophe Nambotin on day one, Knight significantly upped his pace on day two to reduce the Frenchman’s advantage and bring to a close another successful two days of competition in South America.

In what was regarded as one of the toughest EWC events of recent times, the GP of Argentina saw riders battle through extreme heat and mile after mile of dusty, rock littered terrain. Consistently placing his KTM at the sharp end of the results during the two days of tough competition, Knight now holds the runner-up position in the E3 championship standings.

Starting day one strongly, Knight maintained a fast pace in the hot and humid conditions to place second in class. Finding the natural Extreme Test to his liking, the KTM rider posted some of the fastest times of the day. Although unable to match the pace of winner Nambotin, David comfortably finished ahead of the third placed rider Joakim Ljunggren.

Knowing the searing heat would be a factor in determining the results, Knight made a conservative start on day two. After easing his way into the opening lap and with the conditions at their roughest, he set the fastest time during the second Extreme Test to lift himself into second position. Facing a stiff challenge from day one’s third place finisher Ljunggren during the final stages of the day, Knight was able to claim the runner-up result. In doing so he strengthened his second place position in the Enduro 3 World Championship standings.

David Knight: ‘Overall I’m happy with the way I’m riding. On day one my pace was good but I just wasn’t able to match that of Christophe’s. I was close to him on the Enduro and Extreme Test but he was too fast on the Cross Test so I had to settle for second. On day two I just tried to ease my way into the day. I knew the heat would play a big factor in the outcome of the race so I was careful to conserve my energy. Entering the third lap everything was working well but then I started to have some problems with my shock. We worked on the setup to try and improve it but we couldn’t fix it fully so I just tried to conserve what lead I had over Joakim. He was pushing hard in the final tests but thankfully I was able to hold him off and secure second. I think this was one of the toughest GPs for a long time. The course was very physical but the heat magnified how tough it was. I really enjoyed the event.
