David Knight & Johnny Aubert confirmed for BSEC Season Opener
The opening two rounds of the British Sprint Enduro Championship, being held in Aldershot, Hampshire on February 11/12, will feature the strongest line-up of enduro racers seen in the UK since the British round of the World Enduro Championship in 2008. With both Husqvarna’s Ricky Dietrich and KTM’s Taddy Blazusiak already confirmed as joining Britain’s best, event organisers GMC Events are now pleased to announce that both KTM Enduro Factory Team riders David Knight and Johnny Aubert will also compete.
For David Knight, the 2010 BSEC champion, the series opener will mark the former Enduro World Champion’s return to the series following an injury plagued 2011 season. Knight, who last year won five out of the six rounds he contested, will be looking to make a triumphant return to the top of the Elite class. After a rigorous winter’s training followed by extensive testing in France and Spain during January and highly motivated Knight will take to the start determined to return to his winning ways.
Regarded as one of the fastest enduro riders in the world, double Enduro 2 World Champion Johnny Aubert is a welcomed late edition to BSEC entry list. Fresh from his recent assault on the Dakar Rally in South America, the Frenchman will use the opening two rounds of the BSEC as a training and testing exercise as he re-adjusts to racing an enduro bike once again. Returning to a 450cc machine for 2012, Aubert’s participation this weekend will mark his first event on British soil since competing in the WEC in Wales in 2008.
Jonty Edmunds BSEC Events Director: ‘The opening event of this year’s Husqvarna ACU British Sprint Enduro Championship is promising to be the most hotly contested enduro event held in Britain since the World Enduro Championship last visited four years ago. It’s fantastic news that the 2012 BSEC series welcomes back all of the UK’s top enduro racers – the fact that it has also attracted some of the very biggest international names is a real boost for the enduro scene. After bowing out of last year’s championship due to injury, David is back once again and looks more determined than ever to win. For Johnny, the situation is a little different. He will use the event to conduct some essential pre-season testing under race conditions as he too prepares for this year’s EWC season. With a fantastic line up the BSEC championship opener promises some incredible racing.’ (source: BSEC)
