New for the 2023 FIM Hard Enduro World Championship will be the introduction of the Women’s Hard Enduro Performance Award supported by GASGAS.
Promoting diversity and inclusion in sport, FIM Hard Enduro World Championship promoters WESS GmbH are excited to announce the introduction of the Women’s Hard Enduro Performance Award supported by GASGAS for 2023.
With the clear goal of highlighting the place of women in motorsport, while encouraging more female competitors to participate, an official trophy will be awarded to the best female rider at all seven rounds of this year’s championship.
Long seen as a male-dominated sport, WESS GmbH feel it’s time to do more to shine a light on some of the amazing performances delivered by female racers at each and every round of the series.
Together with GASGAS, the platform to promote and develop female participation in Hard Enduro races will be raised to a new level. GASGAS are a fun, dynamic and exciting brand that are always willing to push the sport to new limits, which makes them a perfect fit in Hard Enduro.
Winfried Kerschhaggl – FIM Hard Enduro World Championship Manager: “With the Women’s Hard Enduro Performance Award supported by GASGAS we want to provide a platform to highlight and promote the extraordinary performances of our female competitors. Especially as they compete on a level playing field with their male competitors in the Hard Enduro World Championship. Riders like Laia Sanz, Sandra Gomez, and Jane Daniels have achieved great things, but ultimately, we want to see more and more female riders compete on a regular basis. With this award, we hope it will help us work towards that goal and make a positive and proactive step forward in Hard Enduro.”
Sandra Gomez – Hard Enduro competitor: “It’s really cool to have this award for female competitors at each round of the championship. Hard Enduro is an amazing sport. It’s super tough but always encourages you to test your own strengths and limitations of what is possible. With the Women’s Hard Enduro Performance Award supported by GASGAS it will create an added opportunity for women to gain some visibility and support in what is so far a male dominated sport. Hopefully it will encourage more women to race Hard Enduro and enjoy this incredible format of racing!” (source: fim hard enduro world championship)
