Erzbergrodeo XVIII: Sold out after 49 Minutes
The next Erzberg Rodeo is still quite a ways off, but a new record has already been set: 1800 start numbers were available online – and they were gone in less than an hour. After 49 Minutes Karl “iron mountain” Katoch closed the registration. All that remains is some hope – and a long waiting list.
“We thought we had already seen the peak of interest in 2011, when we were fully booked after 5 hours”, says Katoch. “The race office is in full swing already. We have lots of people from all around the world coming here for the first time, so we have a lot of questions to answer.”
Oct 17, 10.00 am: that´s when the online registration for the Erzberg Rodeo 2012 started. A full 49 minutes later all the slots were gone. For those who didn´t get a start number, it makes sense to put their names on the waiting list, says organizer Mark Schilling. “We hand out the start numbers only after the money has come in. So if a rider is registered but doesn´t pay, his number goes to someone on the waiting list.”
The Erzberg Rodeo 2012 will take place from the 7th to the 10th of June. Some of the current Top riders will probably not be there though: according to “Speedweek”, Chris Birch, Daryl Curtis and Riaan Van Niekerk will pass on the iron mountain next year in order to save themselves for the Red Bull Romaniacs which will take place right after the Erzberg.
