Taddy Blazusiak Is Crowned 2012 Champion
KTM-Red Bull rider Taddy Blazusiak was crowned the 2012 AMA EnduroCross champion at the eighth and final round of the series staged inside the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. With the final round of the hotly contested championship concluding with an exciting double main event, Blazusiak made short work of the incredibly demanding course to convincingly win both races. Starting the night off by setting the fastest time in the Hot Lap session, Blazusiak followed it up with a win in his heat race to ensure a direct transfer to the main event.
Wasting little time in hitting the front of the field, the KTM rider immediately grabbed the holeshot in Main Event 1. After a dramatic tussle with his nearest rival Cody Webb, Blazusiak eventually pulled away to earn a comfortable win and with it claim the 2012 AMA EnduroCross championship.
With the title now secure, Blazusiak grabbed the holeshot in Main Event 2 for the final time this season. Although once again facing a challenge from Webb, the four-time endurocross champion determinedly stuck to his racing lines. With Webb beginning to fade in the final few laps, Blazusiak gradually worked his way clear to claim his sixth consecutive main event win of the year.
Final Championship Standings: 1. Taddy Blazusiak, 2. Cody Webb, 3. Taylor Robert
Taddy Blazusiak: “I’m really delighted to have won the 2012 AMA EnduroCross championship. It’s been a tough season and at the final round of the year in Las Vegas the track was brutal. Personally, I think it’s the hardest we’ve faced all year. Leading into the event I knew my speed was good but with the track being so difficult I also knew it would be hard to overtake so a good start would be crucial for a top result. Thankfully, I was able to holeshot both main events, which made things a lot easier for me. During the first main event I was having a great battle with Cody Webb for the win. At first we were very close but during the race I managed to figure out a faster line through the rock garden and it helped me to pull a gap on him and secure the win. In the second main event, Cody was again pushing hard and I was struggling to find the same rhythm that I had in the previous race to pull away. In the end I just stuck to my lines and managed to hang on to win the race. Winning both main events is a fantastic way to cap off the season. Like I said, it’s been a long, tough year. During the first couple of rounds I struggled to find my form but since the summer break I’ve come back strong and have won six races in a row. I’m delighted to have won my fourth consecutive AMA EnduroCross championship – it’s a great way to end the year!” (source: jonty edmunds – future7media)
